The Child of Divorce

During divorce, adults often have such a hard time understanding our own emotions that it’s difficult to project how decisions might be affecting our children.  When I meet with divorcing clients I always ask how the children are faring.  Almost everyone says they are handling the divorce well.  I never believe them.  Not really.  My next suggestion is to watch them carefully as, sometimes, children’s feelings don’t show up for years later.  I know.  I did for me….many, many years later.

I came across this video on YouTube that I think explains the feelings of the child during this transition in their lives.  I hope that by posting it here it might resonate with adults who are either going through the transition themselves or pass on the link to this blog for friends or family that could use some guidance and insight as to what their children might be experiencing.  It’s so important to understand the voice of the child.
